Amritsar Aiport Tax
Jun 14th, 2010, 9:05am

Amritsar, Punjab: If boarding a flight from Rajasansi International Airport, pay more from June 15. The Airport Authority of India (AAI) has decided to levy User Development Fee from every passenger departing from Amritsar.

In a decision approved by the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation, any passenger boarding a domestic flight will have to pay Rs 150, whereas international passengers departing from Rajasansi will have to pay Rs 910 as the User Development Fee.

The Airport Authority of India has informed about the decision to the various airlines operating from Amritsar.

There are six domestic flights daily operating from Amritsar to New Delhi daily, whereas there are various flights connecting the holy city to Europe, Canada, USA, Middle-East and other key destinations.

This charge has been levied at various airports across the country earlier, but the passengers, who are already buying hefty tickets, have not welcomed this fee.

S.K. Pawar, Airport Director, said, “This is a decision of the Ministry and no time-frame has been given till when it will continue to be collected.”

After lot of criticism, the airport had got some facelift but still a lot is missing. Even the proposed first floor departure is not operational and the two aero bridges built around a year back are still not used.

On this, Pawar said, “We don’t charge anything from the airlines for using aerobridges but when they don’t want to use it, we can’t help that.”

Even the travel agents felt the decision to charge more was not a good step.
